Hacked websites could be using your computer to mine cryptocurrency
According to a recent report from AdGuard, more than 200 of the top 100,000 sites on the web were hosting suspicious code. That may not seem like a big deal, but even sites near the bottom of that list draw a huge amount of traffic. The most popular one on AdGuard's list regularly pulls in around 60 million visits every month.
In total, AdGuard discovered cryptocurrency mining code on 220 sites over a three-week period. During that time around 500 million users unknowingly ran that code on their computers.

Bitcoin mining on track to consume all of the world’s energy by 2020
More than half a billion people may be inadvertently mining cryptocurrencies from their computers, smartphones and other devices, according to research conducted earlier this year by ad blocking firm AdGuard.
“How much money have these websites made? We estimate their joint profit at over $43,000,” the AdGuard researchers said in an October blogpost that detailed their discovery. At the time, one bitcoin was worth around $5,000.

The video sites Openload, Streamango, Rapidvideo and OnlineVideoConverter are allegedly loading mining software on to visitors’ computers, making them generate tokens for the bitcoin-like cryptocurrency Monero, according to security firm Adguard.
“We came across several very popular websites that secretly use the resources of users’ devices for cryptocurrency mining,” said Andrey Meshkov, co-founder of Adguard. “According to SimilarWeb, these four sites register 992m visits monthly.”

Although the developers aren't saying how much money they've made from their idea, online ad-blocking service AdGuard also found the Coinhive miner on over 30,000 sites and estimates the code generates $150,000 in Monero every month. For Coinhive, which takes a 30 percent cut, that amounts to $540,000 per year.

  • Yes, we have a one-level referral system. You get 5% of your referrals’ sales. This amount is added to your daily earnings.

  • Using any form of promotion that could cause reputational damage to AdGuard
    Sending unsolicited SMS messages, emails, or spam messages on social networks, forums, or dating services
    Using incentivized traffic, content lockers, auto-surfing, and other misleading techniques

    When you withdraw funds from Mellow (Solar Staff), select the currency that corresponds to your payment method. If the withdrawal currency differs from the currency in your account, the amount will be automatically converted at the platform’s exchange rate.   • There are two possible cases: when VAT (or another sales tax) is applied and when it isn’t. Note: If a user applies a promo code, all calculations will be based on the discounted price.
    When VAT is applied: We calculate your commission based on AdGuard’s revenue after VAT minus payment system fees. Here’s how it works.
    Finding AdGuard revenue after VAT: The price that users see already includes VAT, such as 20% in the UK. If the price is £114 and the VAT is 20%, AdGuard’s net revenue is £114/1.2 = £95.
    Calculating payment system fees: We take the total amount paid by the user (£114) and find the payment system fees (let’s say 3%, which would be £114 × 0.03 = £3.42).
    Calculating your commission base: We subtract the payment system fee (£3.42) from AdGuard’s net revenue (£95), giving us £91.58.
    Calculating your commission: We apply your commission percentage (40% for example) to your commission base, giving £91.58 × 0.4 = £36.63. Conversion to USD is done at the market rate at the time of the transaction.
    When VAT is not applied: We calculate your commission based on the total revenue minus payment system fees. Here’s how it works.
    Calculating payment system fees: We take the total amount paid by the user (£114) and find the payment system fees (let’s say 3%, which would be £114 × 0.03 = £3.42).
    Calculating your commission base: We subtract the payment system fee (£3.42) from AdGuard’s total revenue (£114), giving us £110.58.
    Calculating your commission: We apply your commission percentage (40% for example) to your commission base, giving £110.58 × 0.4 = £44.23.

  • Payouts are processed weekly on Thursdays via Mellow (Solar Staff), PayPal, or directly to your crypto wallet. The minimum withdrawal amount is $20. Withdrawals are available in USD for bank and PayPal payouts, and in USDT TRC20 for crypto payouts.
